Success Principles

Success Principles

successI thought I’d share with you today, some notes I made from listening to the hugely successful John McGrath, Australian Real Estate entreprenuer, and author of the fascinating read.. You Inc…

The over-riding theme of his talk yesterday, was that your success depends upon your attitude, and that you need to have the belief that anything is possible. John was no mastermind at school but decided that to get where he wanted to be – “the best” – he needed to be just that.At 18, in his first Real Estate job, he put in the hard yards and worked 7 til 7, 7 days a week, (but still only got the basic wage) just so that he could be the best he could be, and accepted no compromise on quality or excellence. He loves all aspects of his business, still working “in” the business as well as “on” the business. In the words of a leading coffee retailer, “without love – it’s just coffee”… just think about that in your business.

He commented that a business will never outpace it’s leader, it is a reflection of you, and highlighted that you get the team you deserve. John has great people in his team because he focusses on them, and holds everyone, including himself, accountable to high standards. This in turn attracts good people to want to work in his business. (hint: check the book review below on Leadership).

Success is a few small disciplines repeated everyday, while failure is a few errors in judgement repeated everyday. John says he is obsessively fanatical about the detail all the time. Don’t allow even the smallest thing to lower your standards.

Do you think he has a plan… of course he does. He has a one page summary and reviews it twice daily in the shower – it’s laminated of course. When did you last look at your plan?

Since the age of 24 he has also had a coach, and even with his success, he still has one as he strives still to be the best he can be…

That’s the very much abridged version but if you get the chance to listen to John, jump at it. Meanwhile I’d encourage you to grab a copy of “You Inc” as a Christmas present for yourself, and enjoy the read.

Make your week count – and be the best you, you can be!
