This is done using four characters. They live in a maze and hunt for cheese to nourish themselves and make them happy. The ‘Maze’ is a metaphor for the places we look for the things we want in life like the organizations we work with, the families we love and the communities we live in.
The ‘Cheese’ is a metaphor for what we want to have in life like a career you enjoy, a loving relationship, wealth and possessions or spiritual peace of mind.
The characters are two mice called ‘Sniff’ and ‘Scurry’ and two Littlepeople called ‘Hem’ and ‘Haw’. The story deals with how they respond to change with ‘Sniff’ and ‘Scurry’ keeping things simple and the Littlepeople ‘Hem’ and ‘Haw’ with their more complex brains and human emotions complicating things.
Every day the characters would split into two groups and hunt for cheese in the Maze.
Then, one day the mice and the Littlepeople discover Cheese Station C in which was a massive store of cheese. The Littlepeople, Hem and Haw, become content with their find and arrogant as time goes by. They do not notice that the cheese is gradually diminishing. However, Sniff and Scurry had noticed and were prepared when they arrived at Cheese Station C to find no cheese left. They immediately set off in the maze to find a new supply of cheese. In the meantime, when Hem and Haw arrive to find no cheese they are angered and annoyed. They end up heading home hungry having gone on about the unfairness of the situation.
Whilst Hem and Haw get hungrier over the next few days, continually ranting and raving about the unfairness of the situation; Sniff and Scurry end up finding Cheese Station N in which an even bigger supply of cheese is on hand. Eventually Haw begins laughing at his situation – he realizes he should move on. However Hem does not want
to try anything different. In the end Haw set off by himself and after days of searching,finding small amounts of cheese along the way, he eventually finds Cheese Station N.
Now cautious from past experience Haw inspects Cheese Station N daily as well as exploring different areas of the maze to ensure he does not run out of cheese again.
This book takes less than hour to read, however its unique insights can last for a lifetime.
